, No, everything was wonderfull
The location & view was fantastic! Friendly staff, helpful and attentive. The view from the room & the terrace was really amazing, watching the sunset over Florence. Or having a drink in the garden after a nice homecooked dinner (for a reasonable price).
Location & view was fantastic! Staff was fluent in English, kind, helpful, attentive. Easy access to Florence (15-20" bus ride). The view from my room & the terrace was wonderful, watched the sun set over Florence with an evening beverage while journaling nightly. Be mindful that in order to walk to the bus stop or up to the town of Fiesole, it is a bit of a climb for someone deconditioned or elderly but it is easily accessible by car
Narrow bathroom & bathtub might be a challenge for a larger or elderly person.
Pensione Benciste is a hidden gem: a lovely family run place to stay where the family make you feel at home. The house and location are stunning and just a few minutes away from Florence. Or go in the other direction and you are in the small town of Fiesole. Go further on and you are soon in the mountains and rural villages.
We visited the Pensione based upon online reviews that recommended this location for atmosphere and the view of Florence. I am sorry we only stayed one night. The staff were kind and helpful. They were also very understanding in a mistake I had made during the online booking procedure. We stayed for dinner and this too was a good choice with the cheese course at the end of the meal being a welcomed surprise. Having a glass of wine and watching the sunset with Florence spread out before us - it was our favourite moment of a two week trip to Italy. The day spent in Fiesole was equally favourable with so much to see in a small town. We would go back and stay at the Pensione with easy day trips into Florence by public transit or taxi. We loved our time at the Pensione Bencista!
Simply the best! Love the terrace, for after dinner drinks, the views are lovely, I will defiantly return!
The pensione was very well located in a quiet position over-looking Florence. There was a very convenient bus stop a short walk up the road with a frequent service into Florence. The staff , mostly family members, were friendly and helpful. There was a lovely atmosphere. The food was homecooked and excellent with good, reasonably priced local wines.
We loved the multi-generation family running the hotel, the great view and the sense of history - stones in the building are from the Etruscan era!
No real shower in our room
A simply excellent place to stay. It is on the bus route into Florence but on the hill away from the crowds. The family running the hotel are welcoming, helpful and provide a wonderful service. The food is very good and the views to die for. A marvellous trip
We loved everything
We were recommended to the Bencista by friends and were delighted with it. Very friendly, family run hotel in a great location above Florence. A terrace to have breakfast on, watch the sunset and watch the lights of Florence come up. Good 'English' breakfast with cereals, fruit, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, toast etc. The evening meal is a set three course and excellent value at €13 pp. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and a comfortable bed. There is a bit of an incline up the drive to the nearest bus stop and the buses are frequent and take 20 mins. Into Florence. Buy the tickets from the front desk as they are cheaper than paying on the bus. We would recommend it highly and will return.
The only thing is that it would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room.
The location was good because it allowed us to take a bus into Florence and leave the car on the property of the hotel. One does not want to drive into Florence !It was a 25 minute ride and the bus stopped a few minutes walk from the gate of the property. The view was divine !
Old is a good thing but old and outdated is another. An update is long overdue. The staff is not too friendly and the owner on duty was not appealing either. She did not have a good vibe at all. Maybe a bad day ? Or days ? Breakfast on a scale of 1-5 was a 2.
The situation is breathtaking with wonderful views over Florence from the terrace where breakfast is taken. The rooms are charmingly old- fashioned. Beautiful gardens and lots of home-produced vegetables and fruit. Evening meals are very reasonable and of a very good, plain standard with a good range of reasonably priced wines. Breakfast very good with lots of choice, particularly of fresh fruit.
Finding the hotel is not easy with the supplied map references for gps. The downside to the rooms being old-fashioned is the lack of air- conditioning (a ceiling fan is provided) so best to be properly equipped for mosquitoes which love the open windows!
The Bencista has been run by the same family for many years. They are all there, the mother and daughter on hand to help you; and they clearly care about their guests. These are lovely people and the service they provide is very special. The wonderful thing about this place is that it never changes. It's also the kind of place that is hard to leave. There is a wonderful terrace overlooking Florence and several rooms with antique furniture and comfortable chairs to relax and read. It's very quiet and the food is typical and good.
The family who runs the hotel is lovely and extremely helpful. The panoranafrom the terrace is great. The food served for breakfast and dinner is good value for money. The ancient atmosphere of the building allowed us to travel beck a bit into time.
From early morning the hotel is a a bit noisy so it is not the best place to stay if you look for long and quiet mornings in bed, but does not really matter if you are up early anyway to see Florence. Air- conditioning would be great during the hot summer days.
The facility was charming with so much character. It was very well maintained and very clean. The views and decor made it feel like I had stepped back in time and was really getting a taste of Tuscany. The staff and family that run the Pensione were so friendly and very helpful. We felt safe and very well cared for. One evening I was able to enjoy a glass of wine while listening to the owner play the piano! What a treat! We enjoyed the dinners so much that we choose to eat at the Pensione all 4 nights of our stay. I would recommend to everyone going to the Florence area to stay, it is easy to get into town by bus or taxi and worth the retreat to stay there! Thank you again everyone at the Pensione Bencista!!
